Why George Cottage Students Play with Boxes and Loose Parts

December 20th, 2023

During the holiday season, we often marvel at how sometimes when given a toy as a present, children play with the box the toy came in, or even the gift wrapping, more than the toy itself. There are so many educational benefits of playing with everyday objects, or loose parts as we call them in the George Cottage’s Reggio-inspired approach. The idea of ‘loose parts’ uses materials to empower a creative imagination. The more materials and individuals involved, the more ingenuity takes place. We encourage our children to make use of all loose parts indoors and outdoors.
