AD Frank Cazeaux

Frank Cazeaux wants everyone to know this: He is demanding. He wants things done right, and professionally. And if anyone wonders whether he is just as demanding of himself, ask him where he sees St. Martin's Athletics in five years. He'll tell you-at the top of Class 1A.

Frank Cazeaux transitioned from football and baseball coach to Athletic Director at St. Martin's in 2009. He's still coaching, but he is also in charge of the whole athletic program, and he has high expectations. Says Frank, "I want, feel and expect all athletes to conduct themselves in the right manner, do the things we ask them to do, remember that they're representing St. Martin's, and that they're making a commitment to the school. In athletics, if you do the little things right, winning will take care of itself. If you truly believe the things that the coaches are teaching you, you have a chance to beat any team that isn't doing the same."

Frank Cazeaux knew he would be a coach when he was 15 years old, "growing up" on the Jefferson Playground and admiring his role models Wally Pontiff Sr., the late Coach Louis "Rags" Scheuermann and his Rummel High School Coach Larry Schneider. Now in his 26th year of coaching, Frank knows that education is more important than athletics, but when done right, they work hand-in-hand to produce young men and women who are intelligent, fit, of high character and skilled in sports.

A visit to the Adkerson Gym reveals several improvements already made by Frank. Banners celebrating the school's 23 state championships will be hung from the rafters. A large banner on the back wall of the Gym welcomes everyone to the Home of the Saints. The weight room has been refurbished and a flat screen tv has been added to the Athletic Conference Room to allow viewing of game video. On the fields, too, change is happening. New uniforms for boys basketball, girls Middle School soccer as well as track and field, and a shade structure has been added to Tony Porter Field for cover from sun and adverse weather. And letterman jackets are back as well!

Frank is also overseeing a significant change in Middle School PE and team sports. The previous schedule of team sports three days every week left athletes without enough time to optimally develop their skills, so MS team sports will now take place five days a week, 3-4:30 p.m. Meanwhile, every Middle School student will participate in PE three days a week in the morning, which is the best time to exercise in order to increase fitness, improve learning and develop life skill sports. Frank adds that he will ensure we have qualified coaches for our younger teams and the Athletic Department will be focusing more attention on athletes in the Middle School.

Frank is also focused on Lower School students, especially 4th and 5th grades, with flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball and softball. He wants to work with all Lower School students to develop skills and introduce them to the fundamentals of sports so they have an opportunity to participate when they begin Middle School.

Concludes Frank, "I want to boost school spirit at St. Martin's. I want to get the kids more involved in athletics. I want to get the parents more involved in athletics. I want to build pride in the programs and the school."
