May 27th, 2023

As a fitting end to a wonderful year, the Lower School celebrated the accomplishments of the Class of 2031 at the annual Recognition Program on Friday, May 26. Family, friends, and fellow students gathered in the Solomon Theater to laud the class and send it on its way as the students move up to Middle School. Lower School Head Dr. Rebecca Lovisa addressed the crowd and congratulated the fourth graders on their accomplishments before faculty presented awards.

The Shilling Award was presented out of love and gratitude for Penny Shilling, former teacher and friend. This year, it was awarded by the faculty and students to David A. Truesdale on the basis of scholarship, service, and amiability. The runner-up, Lucy Breaux, was also recognized during the ceremony.

The Millican Cup was presented in appreciation for the innovation of Mary Lou Millican, beloved former Head of Lower School. It was awarded to Claire Min, who has excelled in academic achievement and has consistently displayed the characteristics of good citizenship.

The Marjorie Conatser Award was presented in thanksgiving for the vision and dedication of Marjorie Conatser, a former teacher and Head of Lower School. This year it was awarded to Lucy Breaux, who has attended five or more years at St. Martin’s, and who possesses integrity, initiative, creativity, and enthusiasm.

Citizenship Awards were presented to Paul Hogan and Neva Silva.

High Academic Achievement Awards were presented to students who achieved academic excellence throughout the school year. Those students were Camila Alvardo, Paul Hogan, Claire Min, and David Truesdale.
