In January 1998, Bishop James Brown completed more than two decades of service as Bishop of Louisiana. During that time Bishop Brown served as an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees of St. Martin’s Episcopal School and was an ardent supporter of Episcopal education. The Bishop Brown Scholarship is used solely for the education of students from Episcopal primary schools, and/or students who are Episcopalians entering St. Martin’s in either eighth or ninth grade, as a means to honor Bishop Brown’s years of service and support. Each year students are designated Bishop Brown scholars by virtue of their embodiment of St. Martin’s motto of “Faith, Scholarship, and Service.”

Eligibility and Guidelines
The Bishop Brown Scholarship will be awarded to provide merit-based, half-tuition scholarships to students who are entering St. Martin’s Episcopal School in eighth or ninth grade and are Episcopalian or are currently enrolled in the following ISAS Episcopal schools:

  • St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, Christ Episcopal School, St. George’s Episcopal School, St. Martin’s Episcopal School, St. Paul’s Episcopal School, or Trinity Episcopal School.
  • A student who is awarded a scholarship is eligible for awards through 12th grade, provided that the student continues to exemplify the criteria for the Bishop Brown Scholarship.

Application Process
The application process has four parts:

  1. Bishop Brown Scholarship applicants must complete an application for admission to St. Martin’s Episcopal School at stmsaints.com/apply, unless already enrolled at St. Martin’s.
  2. Complete the Bishop Brown Scholarship application form on the reverse of this page.
  3. Attach a letter of recommendation from the student’s chaplain or rector.  This letter should outline the student’s demonstrated faith and service.
  4. Attach an application essay. See prompt on the Bishop Brown Scholarship application form. 

Notification Process

  • The deadline for applications is January 31. Recipients of the scholarship will be notified on the ISAS notification date.
  • Send Bishop Brown Scholarship application documents to [email protected] or directly to the Admissions Office.
