Our Episcopal Tradition
St. Martin’s is the only Episcopal school in the New Orleans area that serves students 8 weeks old through 12th grade. Our Episcopal identity guides how we educate and shape children through the development of strong moral and ethical values, compassion, and empathy in every student. We believe in respecting others, speaking honestly, offering kindness, and serving the community in celebration and worship of God.
A Love of Thinking and Learning
We inspire curiosity in our students, the first step to developing a love of learning. George Cottage’s approach emphasizes exploration and hands-on learning based on the interests and needs of the children in each group. St. Martin’s youngest students learn and grow in a safe, secure setting designed to promote social skills, decision-making, and play.
Academic Excellence
The educational philosophy of the George Cottage is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which emphasizes allowing children to follow their natural curiosity and creativity to stimulate a love for learning. We strive to provide an open-ended and child-centered curriculum that emphasizes learning through play, listening, moving, touching, and observing.
A Supportive and Diverse Community
We care about our students as people and we care about the people we help them become. St. Martin’s provides a welcoming atmosphere, and we have a strong, tight-knit community. We believe in welcoming children and families from all faiths, backgrounds, and perspectives. We value diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in all its forms. Our faculty serve as mentors and also nurture our students, providing the safety and support that allow our students to stretch themselves and become who they are meant to be.
A Campus of Opportunity
St. Martin’s provides many and varied spaces, both indoors and outdoors, where our youngest Saints learn, explore, and thrive. George Cottage students have the benefit of the entirety of St. Martin’s 18-acre campus, including: a chapel, 500-seat theater, visual arts building, indoor swimming pool, two full-size gymnasiums, lighted football field, all-weather track, amphitheater, student center, two libraries, multiple playgrounds, three science labs (including one specifically for Lower School students), a Lower School STeaM Lab, and Center for Innovation + Design.
It is the policy of St. Martin's Episcopal School to administer its educational programs, including admission and financial aid, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, or disability.
