Science Olympiad Team Earns 2nd Place in State Competition
April 15th, 2024
St. Martin’s Science Olympiad team took home second place in the state Science Olympiad Tournament hosted at Louisiana Christian University in Pineville, Louisiana. The tournament featured more than 200 students from 16 schools across the state competing for a chance to represent Louisiana at the national finals in May. Several local schools, such as Isidore Newman School, Benjamin Franklin High School, Mount Carmel Academy, Academy of the Sacred Heart, and The Willow School, were among the competitors.
St. Martin’s students earned five first place finishes (gold medals) and five second place finishes (silver medals) in 23 individual events.
Event challenges range from hands-on activities with equipment that the students pre-build and bring to the Olympiad, to laboratory experiments, to written exams. There were 46 separate competitions, each with first/second/third place finishes, and those competitions contributed to the school’s ranking to determine the winners.
Congratulations to our Science Olympiad Saints!
